Glögg!

It isn't officially the holiday until the glögg comes out to play!

This year, Mrs. S invited me over to partake in making of this glorious drink - and shared with me the secret family recipe! Which, sorry, I have been sworn to secrecy, but there are plenty of recipes available if you're interested (which I think you should be).

Prepping all the spices, almonds, and raisins!

For those of you who haven't had this stuff before, glögg is a mulled wine and a holiday must-have in the Sturke house! And thank goodness for that!

We tripled the recipe to make enough to share and used burgundy wine, port, brandy, and vodka. Just smelling this stuff will knock you over. :)

Pouring in the Port.

Sugar cubes get put in a colander. Then brandy gets poured all over them and they get lit on fire! The sugar caramelizes and drips into the wine and port and spices. Then, just to drive the point home, vodka gets added to the mix for good measure.

Poppa S cracking open the Brandy. We're ready for the fire!

The fire part is pretty exciting. Make sure you're sober for this part of the process. Seriously.

We took out the raisins and almonds so that they can be added just before serving. Keep them stored in separate containers (apart from the glögg) and throw some of each into the bottom of your mug, top off with wine, and heat before serving. This stuff is only good if it's piping hot! The microwave works fine to heat it up.

Skål!
