Sadness :/

I'm in the middle of packing for a mini vaycay this weekend to the river house, so of course it is an excellent time to stop and post an update on the ol' blog...

I was able to get an appointment with a specialist on Wednesday to figure out how much damage I had done to my foot, and I'm thinking he'll just tell me I'm an idiot and tell me to keep icing it. That was the best case scenario.

Well, it didn't exactly work out that way. The doctor takes one look at my X-Rays and tells me I have abnormalities in my feet that mean I'll never be a runner or a ballerina. His words, not mine. I've got a bump here, and extra bone there... and it all adds up to something about tendons and bad news.

In short, I'm crushed. I've spent the last two days freaking out about it and the idea of perhaps having to have foot surgery (only if the pain doesn't get any better), in which case, the doc says it'll take a year to heal and my foot will never be the same. Well, great.

I'm fairly certain this is how those stories on TLC start... My 600 pound life. Person gets pumped about running, signs up for a half marathon only to find out their feet are basically worthless, then spends the rest of their days eating cheese balls in bed.

Ugh. If you would have told me a year ago that I would feel this devastated about not being able to run, I'd probably laugh until I turned blue in the face. So, I guess that's something. It's pretty cool that I have actually started loving it.

Until I pick up a new interest (break ups are hard... I'm not even at that stage where I think finding another love like running is possible), I'm doing my best to ignore the gorgeous weather, the runners I see, the running magazines, the trail runners I have to wear to work every day (evil twist of fate: the ankle brace that the doctor gave me only fits in the trail runners. The trail runners I may never wear again to run in. Wonderful.), and the running shorts/shirts/socks in the dresser. :(

Right now I feel like a big ol' blob of sad, but hopefully the awesome weekend ahead will turn my frown upside down. Nothing like a day in Fredericksburg and a weekend at the Rivah for the soul.

Yesss... I can just feel the sting of the jellyfish now...

I just tried to comment but it got deleted when I tried to sign in. To sum up what I wrote:
- Biking. Just got a hybrid, trying to make it my new exercise love. Maybe we could do this together in the future.
- Elliptical. Not the lame girl with a magazine type. The sweat like a man type. Mostly because my knees are not big fans of me when I try to run.

Sounds good Leslie! I've been thinking biking might be the next best thing! I'll definitely let you know when I get one! Since you work so close, we could probs hit up the W & OD trail!

Also, haha I was totally that elliptical girl with the magazine. But with the running training and all, I'm totally prepared to do the sweat like a man type.

Thanks girl!!!
