Make Way!

So, the time has come again for Couture. More specifically, Elie Saab & Christian Dior Couture (essentially, the ONLY two shows I ever want to see in person before I die - does that sound too needy?).

Lots of other great couture shows so far - Jean Paul Gautier rocks the famous uber-femme silhouette meets menswear look and Valentino's rookies (former accessories designers, turned haute couturiers... pfft, as if they just got Valentino handed to them... well, essentially) played it safe for their first couture showing - classic Valentino reds, beautifully executed pleats, etc. But more on those other shows to come...

For now, let's all just take a minute to look over some highlights from the Spring 2009 Couture Collections of my two favorite fashion powerhouses of all time. EVER. Elie Saab is so amazing because he brings the glamour back into the gown, overindulging in silks, shimmer, and layers - in a way that makes a gown sooo much more than just a dress. Dior, on the other hand, puts on a show. The hair, the hats, the makeup, and of course, the wearable art. SO inventive and such a sweet indulgence for the eyes.

Elie Saab

Hello Beyonce! I wonder if they make this in gold...

Michelle Obama would rock the socks off of this dress.

OMG.OMG.OMG.
I'm getting married in this crap.
Or going to the park in it, or to the library, or to the movies...
you know, whatever it is you do in couture.

A little Dior-esque, non?

Christian Dior

... and Galliano gets a little inspiration from your Grandmother's linen closet ...

And BAM. As soon as it started, it was over. Now, like a good little addict, I will have to go back into Couture Hibernation... trying to survive off of the little sustinance Ready-To-Wear and Resort shows provide me... until more Couture in Fall... le sigh...

EILE SAAB IS A GOD.
The only dress I didn't like was the second one (rip the sleeves off and then maybe... football pads and couture just don't mix).

And well, Galliano should have just dropped the third dress. I fully approve of the "linen closet" inspiration. Cute.

Ahhhh. OMG GGGGGG CHECK WHAT I AM EMAILING YOU IN A FEW... I AM SO GETTING MARRIED IN EILE SAAB. AHAHAHA. TEN YEARS FROM NOW. <3
