Momma Jones' Spaghetti Sauce
Spaghetti is something I usually avoid like the plague. I've never had any luck with it! :|
Never again! Matty J provided his mother's sauce recipe for our pasta party on Friday night and my life will never be the same!
This sauce was so thick and amazing that it looks more like a sloppy joe than the usual runny red sauce. PERFECT.
This sauce is thick, sticks to the pasta... OY. It's just amazing. I made enough to have a giant vat of it - and it's a good thing because the only thing better than spaghetti is leftover spaghetti.
For the greatest spaghetti sauce in the world, you will need:
olive oil
1 onion
1 pound ground beef
1 jar pasta sauce (I used Bertolli's Olive Oil and Garlic)
1 large can crushed tomatoes
1 can tomato paste (I used the one with Italian Herbs)
fresh basil
You start by dicing the onion into small pieces, in a large saucepan, add olive oil, sweat onions and add ground beef. Cook until ground beef is browned, then add the pasta sauce, crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Cook until thickened. Top with chopped fresh basil and parmesan cheese, if desired (meaning always).
Another pasta we did for the pasta party was just a simple one with truffle butter and sautéed mushrooms. While we wanted an alternative to red sauce, we weren't looking for a heavy alfredo sauce either, so this fit the bill perfectly. Something clean with a good amount of flavor.
